Chatting with Agents in Your Browser
By default, an agent using the web browser tool works inside a separate browser UpServe runs on your behalf — a clean browser with no logins. That makes it hard to work with sites that require you to be signed in, or sites that block traffic from outside a particular country or network.
Turn on browser bridge and the agent works inside your own computer’s browser instead. It uses your everyday Chrome (or Edge), so it can open stores, banks, and internal tools you’re already signed into without logging in separately — and since traffic goes out from your own connection, sites that were blocking access before will open normally.
How to get started
- Go to Settings → Connect My Browser and click Install. This opens the UpServe extension’s listing on the Chrome Web Store.
- Once installed, a new tab opens and connects to your account automatically. (If the extension is already installed, the settings page shows a single Connect automatically button instead.) If automatic connecting doesn’t work, you can request a connection code on the settings page and paste it into the extension’s panel yourself.
- Click the UpServe icon in your browser toolbar to open the panel on the right side of the window. Pick an agent there and start talking.
- To let the agent see the page you’re currently on, just chat from that tab. To hand over a whole tab so the agent can click and type in it, drag that tab into the agent’s workspace (its tab group) — the moment you do, the agent can act on it. Drag it back out and it’s yours again immediately.
Once connected, that computer’s browser reconnects automatically every time you open it. You can connect more than one computer.
What changes
- No more login friction. The agent reuses the session you’re already signed into — no need to hand over usernames or passwords.
- Blocked sites open normally. Since requests leave from your own browser, sites that only allow traffic from a certain country or company network work the same way they do for you.
- Web search and other internet requests use this browser too. While it’s connected, the agent’s everyday internet work routes through your browser by default.
- If your browser is closed or your computer is off, this path isn’t available — the agent falls back to UpServe’s own browser as usual.
Built-in safeguards
- Touching a tab the agent is using pauses it and asks first. If you click into or navigate away from a tab the agent is working on, it stops and checks with you before continuing.
- Approval cards still appear before actions you can’t easily undo. Things like posting, paying, or deleting still ask for approval as usual. Since the panel assumes someone is at the keyboard, if you don’t respond within 90 seconds the agent uses its own judgment to either continue or stop.
- The agent can’t close tabs you handed it. It can only close tabs it opened itself — any tab you gave it stays open until you close it.
- You can block sites you never want to hand over, like your bank. Add a domain to the “sites to never enter” list in settings and the agent won’t read or click anything there, including subpages.
- It’s never used for unattended runs. Scheduled or automatic runs that happen when no one is watching don’t use your browser — they still run in the cloud as usual. Your browser is only used while you’re actively chatting.
Managing your connection
From Settings → Connect My Browser you can manage:
- Connected browsers — every computer you’ve connected, when it last checked in, and a button to disconnect it. Disconnecting stops the agent from working in that browser immediately.
- Sites to never enter — domains you never want the agent touching.
- Activity log — a timeline of which sites the agent acted on in your browser and what kind of action it took. Page content and anything you typed are never stored — only the site, the action type, and when it happened.
Advanced
None of this is necessary for everyday use. It’s here if you want to understand how it works under the hood, or need to debug something that isn’t behaving as expected.
- This feature ships as a Chrome extension (also works on Chromium-based Edge), installed from the Chrome Web Store. The extension only sends page content (accessibility structure, screenshots) to UpServe’s servers for tabs you’ve shared or handed over — it never reads the content of any other tab.
- The connection is kept alive by its own authentication token, separate from your login session. Disconnecting from web settings invalidates that token immediately and closes any live connection using it.
- If the agent tries to continue browser work while your browser is off or disconnected, that work doesn’t fail — it pauses and resumes automatically once the browser reconnects.
- The extension groups tabs the agent opens into a named tab group (labeled with the agent’s name and session number), so you can tell at a glance which tabs belong to which agent.
- You can connect multiple browser windows on the same computer, or multiple computers at once, and use each for a different agent (or a different conversation with the same agent).
