Managing Your Team in the Office

Going to /office takes you to the screen where you manage the AI employees you’ve hired. This screen is called the Office. It has three views that show the same roster of employees in different ways, and one header lets you switch between them. This page covers what each view shows, where to hire and build teams, and what you’ll find on the pixel-art office floor plan.

Three views of the same roster

  • Table — a dense, spreadsheet-style list of employees. Great for comparing several at once, and the default view when you first land in the Office on desktop. An unread-count badge sits next to each team group header’s [Team chat →] link, so you can tell there’s a new message even while looking at the table.
  • Office — a pixel-art office floor plan where your employees sit at their desks. A quick visual scan tells you who’s working and who’s resting.
  • Board — teams and employees laid out as cards. This is the default view when you first land in the Office on mobile.

You switch between the three with a single toggle at the left of the header. On desktop it has three tabs: [Table] [Office] [Board]. On mobile it’s [List] [Office] [Board] — the Table view is left out on mobile because it only reads well if you scroll it sideways on a narrow screen.

Looking for the pixel-art floor plan? The first time you land in the Office, desktop shows Table and mobile shows Board. The floor-plan view isn’t the default for either — click the middle [Office] tab to switch to it.

Hiring an employee and creating a new team

Two buttons always sit at the right of the header.

  • + New team — enter a name and optional description to create an empty team. For more on building out a team from scratch, see Building Multi-Agent Teams.
  • + Hire — confirm once and a new employee starts right there.

Clicking [+ Hire] brings up one confirmation — “Hire a new employee?” — and that’s all it asks. You don’t pick a name or a job here. Press Confirm and the new employee exists immediately; you’ll see them walk in through the office entrance and take a seat, right there on the floor plan.

Their chat opens right after: on the left panel without leaving the Office if your screen is wide enough, or full-screen if it’s too narrow. The new hire opens by asking what job they’re taking on — deciding what to assign happens in that conversation, not before hiring.

Creating a new team briefly shows the floor plan as “rearranging,” then settles into the new layout.

Getting back to the sidebar list on mobile

On mobile, the view toggle has one extra tab at the front: [List]. Tapping it takes you out of the Office to the sidebar’s employee list. This choice is remembered — the next time you open the app, you land on the list again.

To get back into the Office from the list, tap the [Office] link near the top of the list screen. It takes you straight to the floor-plan view, skipping Table and Board entirely.

Clicking an employee to chat right away

Clicking an employee on the floor plan opens their info card: portrait, name, team, current status, plus (while working) the tool it’s running, its next scheduled run, and its most recent task. Hover shows it as a preview; clicking or tapping pins it open so you can use the buttons.

Clicking [Open chat] on the card (or [Go approve] / [Go answer] instead, if an approval or a question is waiting) does one of two things:

  • If your screen is wide enough (roughly laptop width or more), a chat panel opens on the left without leaving the Office.
  • If it’s too narrow, you’re taken to full-screen chat instead.

The [Open in full screen] button in the panel’s header moves that same conversation into full-screen chat at any time, and you can drag the panel’s edge to resize it.

Catching up on arrivals in the Inbox panel

When your screen is wide enough, an Inbox panel opens on the right. It’s a shared panel that appears in the same spot across all three views — Table, Office, and Board — so you won’t miss an arrived conversation or work report no matter which view you’re looking at.

  • At the top sits a work report card — things like yesterday’s daily report or the weekly contract report.
  • Below that is a conversation list, with unread conversations first and read ones after. You can narrow it by ownership (all, organization, team, personal).
  • Expanding [Automated runs] at the bottom shows recent schedule and webhook runs. It’s collapsed by default.
  • The arrow at the top right of the panel collapses and expands it, and you can drag the edge to resize it.
  • Clicking a conversation entry opens that employee’s chat (or the team chat) in the side panel or full screen.

What you’ll find on the floor plan

  • Status guide — click the ? button at the bottom right to see what each status means. The single most important distinction: “On standby” is a normal state. It means the employee is at their desk waiting for the next job — a normal, around-the-clock ready state that needs no action from you. The only status that calls for action is “No work assigned.”
  • Employee cards — as described above, showing status and recent work, with buttons to open chat or jump to a pending approval/answer. A card for an employee with no work in the last 7 days may also show a [Set up a schedule] button. To understand what “recent work” and progress mean on these cards, see Working Across Workstreams.
  • Summary chips — counts like “3 working” or “1 awaiting response” at the top. Clicking one cycles the view through the employees in that status, one at a time.
  • Find an employee — the [Find] button at the left of the top row expands into a name search box. Type a name and press Enter to cycle through matching employees.
  • Zoom and fit to view — +/− buttons at the top right zoom in and out, and [Fit to view] resets so every employee fits on screen. Zoom is continuous, not stepped — pinch with two fingers on a trackpad or phone and the zoom level tracks your fingers with a live preview, then redraws sharply the moment you let go.
  • Replay last 24 hours — a button at the bottom left plays back the last 24 hours of office activity as a fast-forward replay. You can play/pause, change speed, and scrub the timeline, and the time currently being replayed is shown alongside it. The employee list doesn’t update live while replaying; the close button returns you to the live view at any time.
  • Click a team nameplate to jump to team chat — each team’s carpet area has a nameplate showing the team’s name. Clicking it takes you straight to that team’s chat screen (unlike clicking an employee, this skips the info card entirely). If an employee happens to be standing on the nameplate, the employee takes priority and their card opens instead.
  • Zone labels — floor labels like Reception, Sleep Room, Lobby, Independent Agents, and Pantry help you get your bearings on which part of the office you’re looking at.
  • Name tags — normally no names are shown at all; a name tag only appears above the one employee you’re currently hovering or have selected. Everyone else’s status is shown only by the colored ring at their feet (see the status guide above).

The Inbox panel itself isn’t specific to the floor-plan view — it’s a shared panel used by all three views. See Catching up on arrivals in the Inbox panel above for details.

The mobile apps show the same thing

The iOS and Android apps show the same pixel-art floor plan, including the status guide, employee cards, summary chips, zoom, and the last-24-hours replay.

Controls work through the app’s own entry points, though. The floor plan in the apps has no web header, so [Hire], [New team], the view toggle, and [Find] aren’t on that screen — you use the app’s list and board screens for those. Tapping an employee opens the app’s full-screen conversation directly instead of a side panel.

Advanced

This section isn’t needed for everyday use. Read it only if a view switch behaves unexpectedly, or you want the exact rules behind status and zone labels.

Default landing rules

  • /office renders nothing of its own — it is a junction that forwards you to the view you last chose. Picking a view in the toggle remembers it, so your next visit lands there directly. Each view has its own address and can be bookmarked: Table /office/table, floor plan /office/canvas, Board /office/board.
  • If you have never picked one, desktop lands on Table and mobile on Board (Table has no tab on the mobile toggle). A remembered Table is swapped for Board when you open it on mobile.
  • Before you’ve hired anyone, you stay on the getting-started screen instead. On mobile, if you’ve chosen [List] before, you stay on the sidebar list.
  • Old addresses (/agents, /agents/office) forward automatically — existing bookmarks keep working.
  • The Office entry point in the iOS and Android apps always goes straight to the floor-plan view (skipping Table and Board).

When the chat panel and Inbox panel appear

The left-side chat panel can open on all three Office views (Table, floor plan, and Board). There’s just one condition — your browser window needs to be roughly 1024px wide or more (the same threshold on all three views). If it isn’t (on a narrow screen like mobile), clicking an employee takes you to full-screen chat instead of opening the panel — a fallback so the entry point is never a dead end.

The right-side Inbox panel opens on desktop (roughly 1280px or more) under the same condition on all three views, but if the chat panel is also open it needs more room (roughly 1600px or more) for both to fit side by side. On mobile web (below 768px), where neither panel fits, the collapsible “Recent runs” section at the bottom of the Board view stands in for it.

The full list of statuses

These are the statuses an employee can be in on the floor plan (“Walking” is plain movement and isn’t included in the status guide).

StatusMeaning
Stationed at receptionThe manager (Agent Father) is at reception waiting for new requests
WorkingCurrently running a user request or task
On a call (awaiting response)Waiting for the user’s approval or answer
Team board conversationTalking with another employee via mention
Tidying upJust finished a task and is tidying up the desk
On standby at deskWaiting at their own desk for the next job — around-the-clock, and a normal state
Checking referencesStepping away briefly to check references, then back to the desk
No work assignedPaused, hasn’t started yet, or no work in the last 7 days — the only status that calls for action
SleepingRunning overnight memory consolidation

Where zone labels appear

Reception, Sleep Room, Lobby, Independent Agents, and Pantry are fixed floor labels, not clickable elements. They’re there purely to help you get your bearings.

The five summary-chip buckets

Working / Awaiting response / On standby / No work assigned / Sleeping — five in total, and a bucket with 0 people isn’t shown. The summary chips don’t appear at all during replay — showing “right now” counts alongside a scene from the past would mix up two different points in time.

Why only one name tag shows at a time

Name tags used to always be visible for everyone, but as headcount grew they started overlapping and became hard to read. Now only the employee you’re currently hovering over or have selected gets a name tag; everyone else’s status is shown only by the colored ring at their feet.

Limits of the 24-hour replay

The replay window is fixed at the last 24 hours. If there’s nothing to replay in that window, it shows “No activity in the last 24 hours.” If there’s enough history that the start of the window gets cut off, a “Showing part of the history” notice appears alongside it.
